This semester, I managed the Multimedia team for ORANGE Magazine’s Spring 2018 cohort. My goal was to empower my team to create the content they wanted to create while generating consistent content for ORANGE magazine. When I had started, the current processes at ORANGE were a slew of google drive documents. It was organized and catalogued, but it was not automated or easily transparent. Introducing… our Multimedia Trello!
The Trello helped my team and I visualize what was happening within our team. External pitches were automatically added to our Trello board via a Zapier integration with TypeForm. Our resources lived on Google Drive with synchronous folders linked on our Trello. With our processes laid out, we could easily distinguish who was working on what and at what stage of the video production process. Our resources were centralized so that we could establish process clarity and visual consistency. Although I am proud of the kick-ass video content my team and I produced, I’ll admit our team dynamic could have been stronger had we met more often in person. This was my fault as I had failed to set up bi-weekly team meetings, thinking the clarity of the Trello board was enough. Now, I realize the importance of team building, morale and inclusion.
