Glove Box – ETH SF

2022

Project Overview

Glove Box is an on-chain messenger on SKALE blockchain allowing you to send kind notes to anyone anonymously. I hacked on this project at ETH SF and designed the product.

Problem Statement

In a world filled with fleeting digital connections, negativity, and isolation, we’re craving connection that is unconditional, intentional, and permanent. Sometimes just hearing another’s perspective can change your entire day: you realize you are NOT alone and we’re all trying to do our best managing the human experience. Warm words, ur advice, or fun notes can go incredibly far.

Research and Discovery

I started out by researching similar products that have tackled this problem. In understanding how they’ve approached the space, I could better understand how we could approach it.

In my research, I found products like:

Finding these competitors also validated the problem space we were in and what we were going to build using blockchain technology.

Glove Box is an on-chain anonymous messenger to send and receive simple, positive messages that can brighten someone’s day and lift up their overall mental well-being. You can share positive messages to strangers, and receive positive messages from strangers.

We chose to use SKALE because of the lack of transaction fees & the opportunity to experiment on a blockchain new to the team. Plus the ephemeral nature of messaging calls for frequent transactions, something that the SKALE blockchain could let us and our user easily do without financial worry.

I created some structure around our Hackathon processes -> clarifying our objective, marking what was/wasn’t in scope, creating a Kan Ban, documenting user flows, etc.

With direction on what we wanted to build, I then set out to do brand/design discovery. Pulling in references for the brand that we wanted to convey.

Aesthetic inspiration board created in collaboration with our Visual Designer.

I then started prototyping pages and states based on user flows to create and receive messages. I also made sure to share the designs with my teammates for feedback throughout this process.

I’m so proud of what we pulled together over the weekend – we won a lil bounty from SKALE! Read more on our project on the ETHGlobal website.
